Here's another set of redbox reviews for your viewing pleasure!
Major Players: Gwyneth Paltrow, Tim McGraw, Leighton Meester
The Situation: Has-been country crooner Paltrow is trying to make a comeback... McGraw is her manager husband and Meester is a wide-eyed up-and-comer.
Verdict: Storyline seemed very hokey and predictable, although it was a teensy bit better than I thought it'd be. Felt like a lackluster knock-off of "Walk The Line." IMDB score = 5.8/10. I'd say that's about right. The end is a bit surprising. Being a native Texan and a Tennessee transplant, I loved the footage filmed in downtown Nashville and familiar parts of Texas. And I'm always fascinated hearing a first-actress-turned-singer perform. Paltrow and Meester are both great vocalists, and I'll just say it... I have a girl crush on Ms. Meester. So then there's that. Hit or miss... you might love it.
Waiting For Forever
Major Players: Rachel Bilson, Blythe Danner, Tom Sturridge
The Situation: Sturridge has had a long-time crush on Bilson and fails to act on it, year after year... until his friends intervene and convince him to tell her.
Verdict: I mean... I have a big fat girl crush on Rachel Bilson too. She's super adorable. But I turned this off halfway through... I got tired and decided to do laundry. Way unrealistic storyline, dull dialogue, no real plot. IMDB gave it 6.1/10 stars and I have no idea how. Maybe the second half of the movie is epic, but I'd definitely skip this one. Trailer makes it look really cute, but I was way underwhelmed.
Major Players: Kristen Bell, Jamie Lee Curtis, Betty White, Sigourney Weaver
The Situation: Bell's big brother is getting hitched to her high school arch nemesis. Thus, the competition ensues. The fun and games pick up when Curtis realizes that her soon-to-be daughter-in-law's aunt is HER high school frenemy.
Verdict: I thought this one was really cute... but yes, I think Kristen Bell is adorable. The plot and situations were really silly, but there are a few one-liners and well-earned chuckles stemming from the chaotic female rivalries. More suited for the teen set, I think... it's a little too "young" for a date night, but maybe a good one to watch with your grandmother. IMDB gave it 5.4/10, but I'd go higher. Rent it.
Just Go With It
Major Players: Jennifer Aniston, Adam Sandler, Brooklyn Decker
The Situation: Sandler is skipping through life, faking being married because it continues to land him women. Then he falls for Decker, who isn't down for his game, and incorporates the use of BFF Aniston to win her over.
Verdict: Can't go wrong with Adam Sandler. I loved this... and so did my Mister--great date movie. Lots of laughs, clean enough. Very cute story, very typical Sandler-esque quality film. Think "50 First Dates." IMDB gave it 6.3/10, but I'd give more. Definitely rent this--for sure!
What have you rented lately? What should I skip over and what should I run to get?
