commercial gold.

See also: the most random post I can conjure.

There's a teeny fiber of me that's legitimately excited to tell my kids that I remember when the internet came about. That I remember the scratchy echo of a dial-up signal, screaming at one of my brothers to put down the phone so as to not interrupt the fragile signal--and the eight-to-ten minutes it would take for AOL to power up and "Welcome!" you to the Web, its panel of channels, and yes, even chatrooms galore (on a computer that weighed 55 pounds and had a screen resolution that currently rivals nothing but maybe the $6 calculator on my desk). Yes... I was there.

It was also around this time that one of my all-time favorite commercials (what does it mean that I have a favorite commercial? pondering that one now.) debuted around this time... When I heard the first few lines of the 60-second ad, I would race to the living room to watch Alex Mack giddily portray the oh-so-assumed image of high-school-girl-on-a-date... I loved this commercial. I still do.

And from time to time, I would google any conglomeration of keywords, trying to dig up this memory. After chatting about Patsy Cline with my officemate (you'll hear her crooning "Walking After Midnight" in this one), I tried again today. And lo and behold, would you believe it? Success!!

Do you remember this commercial? Better yet, do you have a favorite commercial?
